What a wonderful difference in winter! Tampere keeps its character in winter but wears a different coat. The local landscapes, activities and events have changed, and there’s a sparkle in the air. The Illuminations are lit, the theatre season is at its busiest, and Father Christmas and his reindeer drop in at Keskustori Central Square. Performing stars shine on stage, the North Star in the sky. Get up and out, into the fun of winter!
Tampere normally sees the first snow in October, but in most years, snow doesn't come to stay until early December. Typically, snow stays until April, but there is annual variation.
The lakes most often freeze in November to December, while in the great lakes, the break-up of ice usually takes place in April or early May.
