Dear Maggie – William Lomax and Tampere, 20 April – 30 September 2012

6/19/2012 - 6/24/2012

Dear Maggie – William Lomax and Tampere casts light on the extensive and important photograph collection of William Lomax, stored by the Vapriikki Photo Archives and previously unknown both to researchers and to the public. These photographs that Lomax took in Tampere in the late 19th and early 20th century also open a perspective on what it means to be foreign. The British-born Lomax moved permanently to Tampere 1891 to work as master weaver at the Finlayson cotton mill. He was a keen photographer and joined the local photography club Fotografiklubben i Tammerfors. Published in connection with the exhibition will be an impressive photography book that not only presents magnificent photographs but also analyses Lomax’s photographs and sheds light on his personal history and on Fotografiklubben i Tammerfors activities.
