Jaatsi is the childhood home of one of the most revered painters in Finnish history, Akseli Gallen-Kallela.
The building was commissioned by Peter Wilhelm Gallén during the Great Finnish Famine of 1867–1868.
A natural stone plaque in the park area states that "On these grounds, the supreme portrayer of the Finnish people grew from the cradle to manhood." The park also contains a bronze likeness of the painter.
Jaatsi holds art exhibitions, small concerts, various cultural events and music lessons.
